I have nothing against commercialism to a point and everyone is entitled to be successful in their business. Still I feel that we lose that small town charm when we go overboard. We often forget that their were hardworking businesses that helped build Danville in the first place. Maybe its my romantic ways that drive me to want to support the local community so that we all can flourish.
My issue today is with Petsmart. Sure its cool to be able to take your dog to a public venue. Petsmart carries just about everything for a variety of pets. With the addition of dog grooming it truly has become a one-stop shop.
When Petsmart opened its doors last year (I forget the actual date) I went with a handful of flyer’s ready to post them on a community board or see if there was some way they could support a local dog boarding business. I learned from the manager (and certainly not a friendly way) thats Petsmart doesn’t refer any type of businesses nor provide any community resources. I admit I was a bit taking back by this. The very least they could do is offer a community bulletin board.
I admit that I buy all my dog food at Leggits Town and Country because I believe in supporting local businesses. They have a huge pet section, not as big as Petsmart but if I ask any of their sales people about a food they KNOW what they are talking about. If they don’t then they get Fred or someone that does. Still there are items they just don’t carry and up until my incident with Petsmart manager, purchased these items from Petsmart. From now on if Leggits can’t order it in for me I will buy it online. This is also why I buy plants and seeds from local nurseries. Sure Home Depot and Lowes sells it a little cheaper but try and ask someone for help! They have no idea what they are talking about.
Petco is getting ready to open literally 2 min from Petsmart. It will be interesting to see what strategy they use to enlist Petsmarts growing customer base.
I would like to invite you to check out Leggits Town and Country. The people over there are very friendly and they carry brands I love like Wellness and soon Evo. In fact if you haven’t checked out Wellness Dog food stop by Leggits and talk to someone. The ingredients really impressed me because they use human grade meat, fish and poultry along with berries, vegetables, important fibers and probiotics. Ideally I would make my dogs food and when its not busy I do, however realistically commercial dog food is easier. Lets face it I don’t have blueberries and sweet potatoes on hand all the time. lol
Wellness has a new food on the market called Core. It comes in a reduce fat, chicken or a fish base (I use the fish based due to the extra omega’s & lower fats). I then purchase cans of the all meat which contains 95% chicken, beef, salmon, turkey or lamb.I use this just as a topper mixing a tablespoon. My dogs LOVE it! Core is based on the raw food diet but is in a kibble. It contains no wheat, corn or grains. Its a little more expensive then some foods you might find at Walmart but I assure you that you will see a noticeable difference in their vitality, skin and poop. I would rather spend more feeding them then spend money later at the vet.
