Beans, Beans, Good for Your Heart, The more you eat…

The faster you RUN!!!!
I only feed my dogs a high grade food which is really expensive when you have 5 dogs, 3 of them extra large. I always add yummy stuff to the dogs food, even my boarders get a tasty treat in their kibble. Sometimes I bake up a batch of sweet potatoes, maybe some canned pumpkin with some brown rice. Not only does it cut down the cost of my expensive kibble but it gives them variety.

This week I make a big batch of brown rice and a large pot of red beans. After all its full of fiber and has excellent protein. So I mix up a meal of rice, beans, a spot of kibble and apple sauce. Everyone got some and LOVED it. About an hour later we had a bunch of tooters! Looks like I’ll be adding beano to that bean meal.
I can’t stress enough the importance of good food but I also know it can get very expensive. Adding the rice foods such as brown rice, pumpkin and other filling yet fat free foods helps offset cost, give new variety and other healthy benefits. A few days a week I might add a can of salmon and another meal plain fat free yogurt. If we do add wet food (we want everyone to eat at the same time) I purchase a high grade, grain free 95% chicken or turkey. I add a bit in a bowl with a dribble of water and place it in the microwave to bring out the flavor. Then I mix about a tablespoon into the kibble. They love it!
This time of year apples and sweet potatoes are in season and you can buy them pretty cheap. I bake both the apples and sweet potatoes and then store it in the fridge taking out only what I need for that meal. Since we raise our own fresh eggs I boil a few dozen weekly and use these as treats. Blueberries are also a nice treat and healthy. You can cook carrots or shred them raw. You want to try and stay away from acid fruits such as citrus and pineapple.
If you’re not sure do a little research of drop me a line. Don’t forget to save some turkey for your pooch but please keep onions out of the mix. Greenbeans are ok as well as potatoes. I normally take the carcass, boil it real good like I’m making soup, remove as much meat as I can and then save the meaty broth to mix in.
